I’ve been really into velvet lately. The trend has definitely appealed to me, especially in terms of the holidays. So when I found this red velvet shirt on sale at Target, I knew what I would be wearing for Christmas. I’ve also been eyeing a royal blue velvet dress, but the jury’s still out on that one.
With this, I started thinking of ways I could style the shirt, and I thought, “Why not put it into a blog post?” I know velvet isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I hope this gives you inspo for all of your holiday parties, occasions and festivities.
Comfy Cosy
I call this the comfy, cosy look because it’s definitely the most lax of the bunch. With medium-toned jeans and slouchy black boots, the look is definitely on the more casual side of the spectrum. I also paired the shirt with this button-up jacket to help it feel more put together. The jacket was a gift, which I believe is from Kohl’s. The boots are from Rack Room Shoes, and the jeans are also from Kohl’s.
Effortlessly Chic
Look number two is still very comfortable, but it adds a few extra touches that gives it more of a smart casual feel. I swapped out the blue jeans for these black H&M jeans. I got them on a really good sale, and that’s definitely my tip for H&M. Never buy anything full price. They always have sales. Though, that’s pretty much my tip for everything else. What can I say? I love a good bargain! Speaking of sales, I got this jacket from H&M as well, and it’s my fav. It has a super soft leopard-print lining that reminds me of the faux shearling-lined jacket trend that’s going on right now. This is definitely more of my style. You know how I feel about cheetah/leopard print. I got these black Chelsea boots from the A New Day Target line, and I’ve been wearing them nonstop. They’re perfect for skinny jeans.
Reasonably Dressy
If you know me, you know that I prefer pants over skirts and rompers over dresses. However, sometimes you just want to dress up. Others, there’s more of a reason. This outfit is definitely suited for a holiday work event or a nice family dinner over fancy, formal gatherings. I paired the shirt with a grey skirt that I’ve had for quite a long time. I believe I got it from Kohl’s, but I’m sure most stores carry something similar. I put on a pair of thick tights and the same Chelsea boots. To complete the look, I added my long, tan coat that I got from Forever 21.
With just a few minor adjustments, you can easily create several looks from just one article of clothing. This just so happens to be mine, but the possibilities are endless.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to Chris for taking these photos.
